Qualifications
The Magpie Ensemble, a small mixed-voice ensemble based in Columbus, Ohio, is actively seeking qualified candidates for the position of Artistic Director. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate proficiency with the responsibilities associated with leading an amateur choral ensemble, including management of auditions, repertoire selection/programming, rehearsal planning, and other organizational and administrative duties as needed. A degree in Choral Conducting or equivalent proficiency is preferred. Candidates should submit a letter of application along with a resume and two letters of reference.
Job Description
- Provides overall artistic leadership and direction at all rehearsals and performances.
- Annually auditions all members.
- Chooses repertoire and plans programs
- Selects and hires soloists and instrumentalists as needed, subject to budgetary limits
- Attends Board of Directors and general business meetings as necessary to provide and receive feedback in collaboration for reaching the group's goals.
- Assists the Board of Directors in developing and implementing policies and planning, e.g., outreach and recording projects.
Candidates should submit a letter of application along with a resume and two letters of reference. The Ensemble seeks to make a decision by August 1, since the fall season begins in September, applications should be received by July 10, at the very latest.
