Job Summary:
The Director of Music Ministries will provide dynamic and creative leadership and oversight to all music ministries of First Congregational Church of Hudson with the purpose of enhancing our worship and communal faith life.
Essential Functions:
Encourage creativity and broad involvement in music at all levels in the faith life of the congregation, working in collaboration with clergy, the Associate Director of Music and the Music Board.
Bring out the best of all musicians according to their individual abilities.
Plan and direct music for all worship services and special church events, live or online, all done in collaboration with clergy. Includes but is not limited to: Special Music for Christmas Eve, Lent, Easter, Special church events including First Serve, weddings, funerals/memorials, and monthly services at Laurel Lake and Hudson Grande retirement centers.
Cultivate, promote, conduct and sustain vibrant and dynamic adult choirs.
Provide support to the music programming for our children, youth and teens in collaboration with the Children’s Ministries and Youth Boards.
Oversee and provide direction to all paid music staff, including the Associate Director of Music, the 11:59 Band, Choral Scholars, and all others as needed.
Cultivate and maintain quality relationships with community musicians and music groups that use our church building.
Develop and maintain our church music library and curriculum
Oversee all care and maintenance of church-owned musical instruments.
Retain and respect our musical traditions while adapting to our future needs.
Lead our effort to translate music into the digital faith world.
Other Responsibilities:
Participate in weekly staff meetings, monthly Music Board meetings, and other meetings as required.
Manage the music budget in collaboration with the Associate Director of Music and the Music Board.
Project a responsible and faithful image to the staff, church members, and the public in all contexts related to the role as Director of Music Ministries.
Grow one’s own musicianship continuously.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Master’s Degree preferred
5+ years’ experience in choral conducting and church music ministry
Excellent keyboard and conducting skills
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a multi-pastoral staff
Deep knowledge and familiarity of music across a wide range of musical styles
Knowledge of current music software and reasonable computer and communication skills
Excellent organizational and planning skills
